Legislation To Bring Back Propane Heaters For Outdoor Dining In NYC

As the weather gets colder, there’s a push to bring back propane heaters for struggling restaurant owners in New York City. In October, Mayor de Blasio banned propane heaters for outdoor dining for safety reasons. However, Councilman Keith Powers says there were no safety issues last winter and he’s introducing legislation to once again allow restaurants to use propane.

“I don’t think restaurant patrons are going to want to sit outside with electric heaters that don’t really heat you. So we are supporting the restaurants here that have been asking to be able to continue the same exact police they had last year.”

Powers says he’s got Mayor Elect Eric Adams on board with propane heaters should his legislation not pass before Adams takes over in January.
