Deadline For "New Voices Engagement Fellowship" Applications is May 12

Friday, May 12 is the deadline for applications for the New Voices Engagement Fellow. WBGO in partnership with the Free Press look to retain a News Voices Engagement Fellow for a pilot project that has been funded for one year.

The position is a full-time, salaried, exempt, fixed term for 12 months from date of hire.

We’re looking for a person who will act as a direct link to and from the Newark Community.  The Fellowship’s unique approach will embed a community liaison directly inside of a newsroom. The Fellow will represent the needs and voices of the community in the newsroom, building on and adding value to the news outlet’s existing work to inform, engage and illuminate. The fellowship program will also allow both organizations to deepen our respective relationships with city residents, WBGO to add newsroom capacity, and Free Press to test how our engagement strategies can work inside of newsrooms.

Qualifications: 

●Bachelor’s degree and/or 3+ years of experience leading successful organizingefforts and/or experience working as a journalist, with a combination of onlineand/or offline organizing, rapid-response work, volunteer engagement, coalitionbuilding, training and reporting

●Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities●Strong interest in media and technology issues and experience working on thoseor similar issues ●Journalism experience and/or familiarity with trends in journalism is preferred

● Experience working on public education, community engagement or othersimilar campaign-organizing work

●Experience working for or advocating before state legislatures and agencies

●Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

●Attention to detail, flexibility and demonstrated capacity to operate in a fast-pacedenvironmentAdditional skills and experience:

●Fluency in Spanish and or Portuguese Preferred

●Knowledge of ProTools helpful

●Drivers license and clean driving record
