Music's cultural exchange, when done right, leads to the rich evolution of musical genres. For trombonist Conrad Herwig it started in 1995 with The Latin Side of John Coltrane. Latin Sides of Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and of course Charles Mingus would follow, which brings us to the newest cross pollination—The Latin Side of McCoy Tyner. You'll hear Craig Handy on tenor and baritone sax, Alex Norris on trumpet & flugelhorn, Bill O'Connell's piano, bassist Ruben Rodriguez, drummer Robby Ameen and percussionist Camilo Molina. Add this to a mucho hip version of "Walk Spirit, Talk Spirit,” featuring legendary pianist Eddie Palmieri.
From Monday, May 27 through Friday, May 31, one cut from Conrad Herwig’s album The Latin Side of McCoy Tyner will be featured each morning in the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.
