Gregory Porter’s new holiday album ‘Christmas Wish’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play December 18-22

Gregory Porter

As a child, singer Gregory Porter listened to his Mother's Nat "King" Cole records, including, I suspect, Cole's glorious Christmas album. Porter brings his sense memory to the Holiday season with this collection of memorable tunes, including a duet with Samara Joy. It's glory in these grooves. Church too—and that voice, making your holidays warmer than if you hadn't listened. A treat to hear what he hears.

From Monday, December 18 through Friday, December 22, one cut from the Christmas Wish album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
