Compton’s Finest, -he debut recording from drummer Brandon Sanders, is a fine out-of the-gate date, featuring plenty of room for pianist Keith Brown, tenor saxophonist Chris Lewis, vibraphonist Warren Wolf and bassist Eric Wheeler to bring their one-for-all attitude. There are some tunes you’ll know, some originals and two guest spots for vocalist Jazzmeia Horn to explore on works by Stevie Wonder and Duke Ellington.

From Monday, October 30 through Friday, November 3, one cut from the Compton’s Finest album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
