A Fall Preview Six-Pack: Jazz United Picks Some Winners

Pi Recordings

The WBGO Fall Preview is our smorgasbord forecast of 88 exciting new releases and happenings on the near horizon.

Preparation for this list is intense and rewarding, involving many combined hours of listening and research by our editorial staff and many of our on-air personalities. It's truly a labor of love, with the ultimate goal that you'll be inspired to support the scene as it continues to emerge from its biggest intermission.

Here at Jazz United, we decided to highlight six albums we're especially excited about. Our picks range from freshly unearthed archival finds (Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Sheila Jordan) to new releases from multi-generational ensembles (Henry Threadgill's Zooid, Johnathan Blake's Pentad, Nicholas Payton's Smoke Sessions and Sara Schoenbeck's Duos.)

All of these speak to a resilient scene, and Jazz United is here for it. Give us a listen, share our show, support WBGO — and most of all, support live and recorded music as much as you can.

Jazz United is produced for WBGO Studios by Trevor Smith.
