New York City schools Chancellor David Banks is laying out how the school system is changing following the coronavirus pandemic. He gave the state of our schools address Tuesday.

Chancellor Banks boasted how the new NYC Reads program has taken off and is now in all elementary schools.

"We are not after a quick uptick in scores. What we are doing is we are laying a foundation for all of our students to be on grade level by the third grade. That is long term work."

During his annual state of our schools speech Tuesday, Banks also talked about new partnerships with CUNY to get students early college course work and student paid work at companies like JetBlue and JP Morgan Chase . Banks did not mention a new report showing more than one third of students were absent for at least 10 percent of last school year. That's much higher than Pre-COVID numbers.
