NYC debuts new parking meters

NYC DOT

New York City is starting to install new parking meters where drivers don't have to print a receipt.

DOT Commissioner YDanis Rodriguez unveiled what the DOT calls pay by plate technology meters in Upper Manhattan. Drivers can put in their license plate number into the parking meter instead of printing and displaying a paper receipt on their dashboard. The data will go right to NYPD traffic agents.

"This change is good for the environment. It is good for business because there is going to be more rotation or more people moving using our limited parking spots that we have and third it will save time."

Tens of thousands of meters across all five boroughs will be replaced with the new meters over the next two years.
