New York City is trying to create more affordable housing in every neighborhood.
Mayor Eric Adams signed the Fair Housing Framework legislation into law Wednesday Council Speaker Adrien Adams says it requires city agencies to create and submit a fair housing building plan every five years for all neighborhoods.
"Too many neighborhoods have been able to opt out of building affordable housing while others have shouldered more of the responsibility and deserve greater investments."
Data shows there's been only 200-thousand new units over a recent 10 year period, despite the city gaining more than three times that number in new residents.
