New York City is seeing an improvement in gun violence. After a huge surge in shootings earlier in the pandemic, the city has seen a drop in the gun violence two months in a row. crime stats show the number of shooting incidents is down 35 percent in July compared to July of last year and murders were down by nearly 50 percent. There’s been a record number of gun related arrests and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea says many gang members are now off the streets.

“These cases are piling up. The work is being put in by our investigators and it is absolutely going to continue to drive down the violence of New York.”

There has been a rise in robberies and car thefts. Overall index crime was about the same as last July.
