Guitarist John Scofield's vision has always played to the horizon and beyond. I'll bet that's what led Miles Davis to recruit him for his band. "Sco" has taken us to church, shown us what groove elation feels like, reimagined Ray Charles, hooked up with fellow guitarist Pat Metheny so we could see and hear their house from here. That's the short version. With bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Bill Stewart, Uncle John's Band has Sco's field of vision giving fluid imaginative takes on classics from Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Neil Young, Leonard Bernstein, Ray Brown and Jerry Garcia, along with some originals for this talented triad to work their magic.

From Monday, January 15 through Friday, January 19, one cut from the Uncle John’s Band album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
