In response to the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) new recommendation for social distancing, and the World Health Organization's declaration of COVID-19 as an official pandemic, Women In Media - Newark Executive Director Pamela Morgan has postponed the 11th annual Women's History Month Film Festival.  A new date has yet to be determined.

WBGO will air the interviews about Blackbird and We Are The Endless Roar at a later date.

Nicole L. Thompson

Nicole L. Thompson, a filmmaker born and raised in Newark, will kickoff the Women In Media - Newark 2020 Film Festival March 25 at 6pm at the Newark Museum.  Thompson is the Director and Producer of Blackbird, an aspirational tale about Sherri Jones, an African American young woman who cleans planes for a living, but dreams of being a pilot.

Thompson spoke to WBGO News Director Doug Doyle from her home in Los Angeles. 

Joyce Adewumi is the Director and Producer of We Are The Endless Roar, a film that gives a better understanding of traditional African cultural practices and beliefs.

We Are The Endless Roar will be screened April 3 as part of the Women In Media - Newark 2020 Film Festival.  Adewumi's project will be shown at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center in Red Bank, New Jersey at 6pm.

The 10th annual Women In Media-Newark Women's History Month Film Fest runs from March 27 through April 5.  WBGO News Director Doug Doyle spoke with the directors of two of the festival's outstanding films.

Being Gladys will be screened March 27 at the Newark Museum.  I Can Only Be Mary Lane will be shown at WBGO on April 5.

The theme of the 9th annual Women In Media-Newark Women's History Month film festival is Passages: Women In Transition and kicks of March 27th at the Newark Museum.  

One of the films to be screened there is acclaimed filmmaker, producer and actor Ebbe Bassey's Saving Father.  Bassey says she was introduced to the festival's producer Pamela Morgan by fellow filmmaker Nefertite Nguvu.

Nguvu's latest work, Myself When I Am Real, will screen on Saturday March 31st at the Paul Robeson Student Center on the campus of Rutgers University-Newark.

Women in Media-Newark will hold its eighth annual International Film Festival March 28th through April 6th in celebration of Women’s History Month. Working in conjunction with Rutgers University–Newark, its major partner, Pamela Morgan's WIM-N will host the film festival over nine days at six venues. All events are free and open to the public.  Two of the film makers came to WBGO to talk about the festival and their respective projects.
