Bloomfield College will soon be the only institution in New Jersey to offer on-site court reporting instruction, offering two certificate programs starting in January 2020.  These certificate programs will prepare students for careers in scoping (certificate one), and judicial court reporting/captioning (certificate two).

The Director of the program, Dr. Greg Reid sat down recently at Bloomfield College with WBGO News Director Doug Doyle, who also teaches various radio classes at the college.

Gage Daye is still one of the best basketball players in New Jersey and he's involved in three summer leagues.  Daye, a Newark native is doing all that while working as an assistant coach at Bloomfield College, where he's the school's all-time leading scorer.

Daye works for his mentor and current Bloomfield head coach Gerald Holmes.  The two men have great respect for each other on and off the court.

In 2011, Coach Holmes guided his team, that included his star guard Gage Daye, to an NCAA East Region championship and an appearance in the Elite Eight.

Last month, Harlem hosted a 100th birthday tribute to trumpeter and innovator Dizzy Gillespie. The celebration included wonderful music and the unveiling of huge colorful murals of the jazz legend.

Global street art and human rights campaign, Education Is Not A Crime, announced the creation of the John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie 100th Anniversary mural at 229 West 135th Street. The mural is the project’s 20th and largest in New York.

Bloomfield College's Assistant Professor of Creative Writing/English Jonterri Gadson will be attending the New York Television Festival's Scripts Competition as an Official Artist.

Gadson's half-hour pilot comedy script was named an Official Selection of the festival that runs from October 23rd to October 28th in Manhattan.

A collection of stellar artists will gather this Friday night for the spirited premiere of Adegoke Steve Colson's jazz-flavored tribute, commissioned by NJPAC in honor of Newark's 350th anniversary. 

Colson's piece Here Is the Place, Our City is dedicated to two of his closest friends who have passed, beloved historian and Rutgers University-Newark educator Dr. Clement Price and world-renowned poet Amiri Baraka.

The concert at NJPAC's Victoria Theater is set for 8pm on April 7th.

Bloomfield College Athletics

The Bloomfield College men's and women's basketball teams are rolling, both on top of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  The captains of the Bears men's team got here via different paths.  6-foot-6 junior forward Nick Davidson had a brilliant senior season at Rancocas Valley High School and has emerged as this year's leading scorer on the Bears.  Rakwan Kelly, a 6-4 junior forward, transferred to Bloomfield after playing at Division 1 Mississippi Valley State.  Davidson, Kelly and women's 6-1 sophomore forward Bobbi Floyd are all pursuing degrees in the communications field.

Dr. Harry Franqui-Rivera is a historian, blogger, author and cultural critic who teaches several classes at Bloomfield College in New Jersey.  Rivera is an expert in the role Puerto Ricans have played in U.S. Military history.
