On Saturday, October 8th, Sundad, a twice Grammy nominated,
internationally known acoustic band described as “World Fusion, New Age” and
Jam-Band music, will appear in Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)’s Music in
the Box Series. Father and son guitarists, John Eurell Sr. and John Eurell Jr. along
with Kendall Buchanan on bass and Abe Speller on drums, perform a wide
assortment of pieces that have made numerous top charts including World/New Age
radio charts.

The Watchung Arts Center is delighted and honored to present two outstanding performers, each at the top of his field on Sunday, January 23 at 3PM. Tony Trischka, “known as the father of modern bluegrass” (New York Times), and Bruce Molsky, “one of the world's premier Appalachian-style fiddlers” (Bloomberg News), will join together in this very special performance. There’s some virtuosic and joy provoking common ground in the fusion of Tony Trischka’s bluegrass banjo world view and Bruce Molsky’s new but true to tradition old time southern mountain fiddling and singing. Their new and old songs and tunes showcase the best of each, and hearing them together is always a wonderful visit between old friends.

Commemorating 80 years since Orchestra Hall reopened as the Paradise Theatre in 1941, the DSO is thrilled to debut its Paradise Jazz Big Band, comprised of top jazz musicians from Detroit and special guests from around the world. Led by trumpeter and arranger Kris Johnson, the newly formed ensemble will feature music by some of the jazz giants who graced the Paradise Jazz Theatre stage between 1941-1951, big band charts by our Erb Jazz Chair Terence Blanchard, and new arrangements by Kris Johnson. Flushing Town Hall presents the GRAMMY award-nominated Bill Charlap Trio, with GRAMMY award-winning pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington. Praised by The Guardian as“one of the best piano trios ever,”the Bill Charap Trio which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2022, is considered one of the leading jazz groups. The trio’s most recent recording features them with Tony Bennett & Diana Krall on the chart-topping, GRAMMY-nominated Love is Here to Stay. The Bill Charlap Trio tours all over the world, and their New York engagements include regular appearances at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Village Vanguard.

The Bed-Stuy born and raised Stephanie Mills racked up accolades in the 80s and 90s, scoring multiple gold and platinum albums, No. 1 R&B hits, and Grammy awards. But she’s perhaps best known as the first Dorothy in the original Broadway run of the Afro-centric Wizard of Oz remake The Wiz—the play’s showstopping number “Home” has long been her signature song. She’s joined at SummerStage by Keni Burke, originally of the Five Stairsteps, and producer of everyone from Bill Withers to The O’Jays, The Whispers to Keith Sweat, but it’s his 1982 hit “Risin’ to the Top” that has been sampled by a plethora of rappers in hip-hop, including Big Daddy Kane and LL Cool J. Spanish Harlem’s own Remix King Ted Smooth DJs to kick off the night in Coney Island.
