United Way Of Newark Partnering With Local Organizations to Feed Those in Need

United Way of Greater Newark

The United Way is partnering with the city of Newark and other local food pantries to help feed residents in need.

Catherine Wilson is President and CEO of United Way of Greater Newark Wilson says the the coronavirus pandemic has shed light on the food insecurity that was already a widespread problem.

“Everybody went grocery shopping and bought up everything they could right, and so a lot of people have been left without the basic things, and then we have folks who rely on our food pantries anyway when there isn’t a crisis, and so now those food pantries are running out of food, right, so now there has to be donations and distribution.”

Wilson says they are giving away one hundred dollar Shop-Rite gift cards as part of their partnership with the city , its all part of a larger covid-19 fund to help serve the needs of the community. Organizations that are interested in distributing food to those in need can visit uwnewark.org
