The program allowing New York City restaurants expanded outdoor dining will continue next year.

Mayor Bill de Blasio estimates the open restaurants initiative has gotten 80 thousand New Yorkers their jobs back. The program which expands outdoor dining onto the sidewalks and streets will start up again June First next year.

“I want the folks who own the restaurants to know that they’re going to have that additional revenue going forward. The folks who work at the restaurants to know whatever else we have to weather. We have seen that this experiment worked. Indoor dining is still on hold and it appears some restaurants are still struggling".

One survey shows roughly 80 percent of restaurants were unable to pay more than half their rent.
