New Jersey’s largest art institution has a new name, as it aims to update its identity in the community.
The Newark Museum will now be The Newark Museum of Art. Institution director Linda Harrison says the updated name makes the institution more inviting to a wider range of audiences.
“The Newark Museum of Art is committed to be inclusive committed to be of the community. Committed to being visitor centric. Everything we do will have you in mind.”
The Newark Museum of Art is celebrating its 110th year, housing a collection that ranks 12thlargest among art museums in the United States.
“We will elevate the experience here for the users,” said state Senator Teresa Ruiz during the new name unveiling ceremony. “We will elevate the agenda for the public. We will make sure that everyone from Camden all the way to the most northern part of the Garden State knows that the Newark Museum of Art is truly the Garden State museum for all.”
