New York City Launches Tenant Protection Portal

New York City is providing more help to tenants struggling to pay rent during the coronavirus pandemic. The city has launched a tenant protection portal that will offer tools and legal guidance to renters.

The mayor says the city needs to be there for the so many people who can’t afford a roof over their heads.

“I don’t want to see anyone lose their apartment because they can’t afford the rent because they just don’t have a livelihood anymore. So I want to say to anyone if you need help this is the place to go.”

Tenants can call 3-1-1 or go to the city’s website to access the tenant portal. Mayor de Blasio is putting together a plan to provide free daycare. The mayor is trying to help parents in jam who have to go to work and yet are dealing with young children at home. The mayor says at least 100-thousand families will get free childcare that will start at the same time school starts.

“There are parents who don’t have a choice, particularly if they are going to work or are going back to work. There are others who may have more flexibility.”

The mayor says there will be an application process with more details to be announced soon.

Childcare will be for children in 3K through 8th grade with New York City planning on doing a combo of in classroom and remote learning.
