New York City Getting Boost In PPE Supplies and COVID-19 Tests

New York City is getting a big boost in supplies in its battle against the coronavirus. Mayor Bill de Blasio says a company in Indiana will be selling 50-thousand coronavirus test kits per week to New York City and starting in May some 50-thousand will be produced in the city through a partnership with city companies and universities.

“Truly reliable major supply of testing.”

The mayor says New York City companies will be soon produce hundreds of thousands of hospital gowns and surgical masks per week but he’s asking for even more.

“I want to challenge all New Yorkers who can contribute to this effort. I want to challenge the academic labs, I want to challenge the research labs. I want to challenge the manufacturers.”

Meanwhile, with the summer youth employment program suspended, the Department of Education is making online contingency plans.  The mayor says he’s confident right now students will go back to the classrooms in September but he’s doubtful for summer youth programs.
