Mayor Bill de Blasio: Some Positive Signs But "We're Not Out of the Woods Yet"

Bill de Blasio
NY Mayor's Office

Mayor de Blasio thinks New York City is starting to see positive effects from social distancing in coronavirus data but warns New Yorkers must keep it up.

Mayor de Blasio says over the last few days hospitalizations have stabilized and fewer ventilators have been needed than originally projected.

“Clearly tells us something about what has been working but it doesn’t tell us when this is going to be over. It tells us we gotta actually double down and stick with what is working.”

He’s referring to social distancing guidelines. The mayor says the City has enough ventilators to get through the week. The Navy and Airforce have sent medical personnel to the city , but the mayor is requesting even more to relieve nurses and doctors.

“They have really uh borne the brunt and they’re tired and they need relief and they need support.”

The mayor is also requesting some nine million surgical gowns from the federal government.
