Marty Elkins is a swinger. She likes to sing the classic songs she heard Bessie, Billie, Dinah, Lavern Baker, Lee Wiley, and Ella sing, growing up in Jersey City. “I’d lock myself in my room and listen to the records,” she said on Singers Unlimited.
She brought along pianist Steve Ash and bassist Lee Hudson for some songs recorded live on WBGO, focusing her newest album for Nagel-Heyer, Fat Daddy.
Here they are performing “Sugar,” in our studio.
