As Federal Unemployment Benefit Comes To An End De Blasio Warns of The Impact on NYC

Mayor de Blasio says New York City residents will feel the impact of the 600 dollar federal coronavirus unemployment assistance ending tomorrow. He lashed out at Senate Republicans, blaming them for not having another round of stimulus money available to struggling New Yorkers.

“This is not gridlock, this is sabotage, literally standing in the way of a stimulus when people in this country are in desperate desperate shape.”

the mayor says the disappearance of the federal unemployment assistance puts more stress on New Yorkers with rent and food

“On the food side, I think undoubtedly more people will become food insecure. We think that’s over two million people right now. This will probably mean hundreds of thousands more.”

But he promises to provide food to as many New Yorkers who need it.
