New York City remains razor thin on the number of ventilators available for coronavirus patients but Mayor Bill de Blasio says there is one positive sign.
“When you go back about two weeks, some days more, some days less, but everyday there was a substantial increase, we needed more ventilators than the day before.”
That changed Monday when there was a dip in demand for the breathing aid machines in hospitals. “For the first time, they were pretty much breaking even,” he said. “We don’t know if it will be sustained.”
Meanwhile, de Blasio is encouraging New Yorkers to continue to take social distancing seriously and wants folks to call 3-11 if they see others not obeying.
The mayor also visited PS 1 Tuesday to applaud food preparers. He says from food pantries to schools, there are more than four-hundred locations throughout the city where folks suffering financially because of the coronavirus can get free meals.
“We are having a lot of people literally having to ask that question: Where is my next meal coming from?”
He vows not to let any New Yorker go hungry.
