Governor Christie's voter approval rating is now at a record low.
Christie's rating is the worst for any governor in any state surveyed by Quinnipiac University in more than 20 years.
Only 15 percent of New Jersey voters approve of the way he's handling his job and 81 percent disapprove.
Pollster Maurice Carroll says 94 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of Republicans have a negative view of Christie's job performance.
"He's not well regarded even by his own party. And the way he's performing lately, he's irrelevant. He doesn't matter."
Carroll says voters are looking ahead to who will replace Christie. The poll shows Democrat Phil Murphy now favored by more than two-to-one over Republican Kim Guadagno.
Carroll says voters question whether the candidates will be able to fulfill their campaign promises.
"On election night Murphy said he's going to tax millionaires and straighten out the school aid formula. Do you believe him? No. 52-to-49 no."
Carroll says voters also have doubts about Guadagno's pledge.
"Her promise to cap real estate taxes in some fashion. Do people believe her? No 68-to-23."
Five months before the election, about half the voters surveyed say they haven't heard enough from the candidates to have an opinion about them.
