This heat-check improv duo hasn’t circled the sun very long, so it’s stunning to consider how far keyboardist DOMi (Domitille Degalle) and drummer JD Beck have traveled thus far, in a musical orbit with some of today’s brightest stars.
Beck, a 16-year-old drumming prodigy from Dallas, Tx., has already contributed beats to artists like Thundercat, Anderson .Paak, Anna Wise and MonoNeon. As for DOMi, who at 18 is enrolled at Berklee on a Presidential Scholarship, she has lent her virtuosic chops to the likes of Robert Glasper, Mac Miller, and — notably, during season eight of our Checkout Live at Berklee series — with the flame-throwing multi-instrumentalist Louis Cole of Knower.
DOMi & JD Beck have plans to release their debut album this year. In the meantime, they continue to make head-turning musical statements online. Mark your calendar for their latest of these, courtesy of The Checkout Live at Berklee — hard emphasis on the word “live.”
