Bramnick Worries About One Party Control If Democrat Wins NJ Governor Race

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick

The top Republican in New Jersey's Assembly worries his party will have less of an influence on state government policy if Democrats maintain control of the legislature and win the election for governor.

Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick worries what might happen if Democrats hold the reins in both the legislative and executive branch.

“You’re going to see the Florio type taxes.  You’re going to see the Corzine type taxes. You’re going to see more and more government. You’re going to see more people having to flee this state because they can’t afford property taxes.”

Bramnick is not worried about a low voter turnout in November.

“I’m concerned though that people will not focus on the economic issues that face this state. That you may get some voters who are voting on an emotional basis but not based on things like property taxes and income taxes, regulation, and competitiveness of our state.”

Assembly Speaker Vinnie Prieto says Democrats have the largest majority in the Assembly since 1977 because they’ve stood for middle-class property tax relief.

Analysts expect the Democrats will win enough seats in the November election to maintain their legislative majority. Murphy has a double-digit lead in the polls over Republican nominee Kim Guadagno.
