The BMCC Jazz Ensemble Pays a Visit to Our Studio For Jazz Appreciation Month

WBGO

April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and WBGO is celebrating by showcasing some of the talent from local programs.

This band comes to us from the Borough of Manhattan Community College, under the guidance of Australian guitarist Quentin Angus, an assistant professor of music. As Angus told WBGO's Bill Daughtry, the music major at BMCC has only been in place for the last year and a half. "And so this is a brand-new ensemble; this is the second semester that it's been running."

The BMCC Jazz Ensemble's set on Afternoon Jazz began with the Ornette Coleman blues "Turnaround," and continued with the standard "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and Horace Silver's "Filthy McNasty."
