Banda Magda Returns to Berklee on The Checkout, with A Worldly Approach to Groove

Banda Magda
artist

Banda Magda creates a worldly music with unrelenting energy. Led by Magda Giannikou, a singer-songwriter and accordionist from Greece, this ambitious, rhythm-minded band came together at the Berklee College of Music, among an international coalition of players. In this podcast, Banda Magda returns to their alma mater in Boston for a special concert.

At Berklee, Giannikou met Marcelo Woloski, Ignacio Hernandez, and Andres Rotmistrovsky from Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Keita Ogawa, from Nagasaki, Japan.  They created the foundation of Banda Magda. After the band had signed to Snarky Puppy's GroundUP label, she recruited multi-instrumentalist Justin Stanton.

Banda Magda celebrates its third album Tigre at the Museum of Modern Art in New York tomorrow at 6:30pm and at Joe's Pub on September 13th and 14th.

Magda Giannikou: Lead vocals and accordion
Ignacio Hernandez: Guitar and vocals
Marcelo Woloski: Percussion and vocals
Andres Rotmistrovsky: Electric bass
Keita Ogawa: Percussion and vocals

And here is Banda Magda's full performance at Cafe 939's The Red Room at the Berklee College of Music.
