ALA.NI, A Singer of Many Paradoxes, Creates A Moment of Stillness on The Checkout

Alex Jonas
Ala.Ni

Is she a crooner from from the bygone era of Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf? Or is she an artist from the cyborg future? ALA.NI tells us she's neither, firmly living in the present.

Born in the United Kingdom and now living in Paris, ALA.NI is riveting audiences with her captivating approach to songwriting. Her whispering vibrato wafts over crawling tempos; emotion vibrates from every cell of her being. She says she developed her unique sound by listening to her great uncle, Leslie "Hutch" Hutchinson, a pioneering cabaret singer and socialite during the 1920s and '30s.

In this intimate studio session, ALA.NI draws from You & I, an album that taps into the singer's vivid imagination with songs about love and romance.
