An audit shows lack of oversight on repair jobs at New York City Housing Authority buildings.
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander's report reveals that NYCHA does not evaluate repair work of vendors in most cases. Aixa Torres, Tenant Association President of Smith Houses explains that the audit also shows that most residents are never asked about their satisfaction of work done in their apartments.
"Allow us to say don't pay this man because he didn't do the right job or they have to come back to my apartment and fix it and do it right."
The Audit which covered 2022 and 2023 shows NYCHA's vetting process does not factor in a contractor's prior performance before a new contract is issued.
NYCHA says it has implemented many of the recommendations made in this report but at the same time doesn't agree with some of the audit's findings.
