A cell phone ban in New York city public schools has the backing of the majority of teachers.

The union representing the teachers released a study that shows 63 percent of teachers who responded favor the ban compared to 31 percent who oppose.

Union president Michael Mulgrew says “Teachers know firsthand that cell phones waste classroom time and threaten students’ mental and physical health,”

Mayor Adams and the schools chancellor say they are studying the mater. Adams previously hinted that rules regarding a ban would be announced at some point this school year. Governor Kathy Hochul and other state officials are looking to put a ban in place on the state level as well.
