Mayor Eric Adams' administration is highlighting work done to combat flooding three years after Hurricane Ida hit New York City hard.

Officials says since Ida, there's been sewer and drainage cleaning and upgrades and more green infrastructure to absorb floodwaters in the city. DEP Commissioner Rohit Aggarwala says they have been giving out flood kits to residents which include sump pumps and flooding alarms.

"Many of the people who died during Hurricane Ida did so because they were in basement apartments and the flooding happened and so we think everybody, particularly in a basement apartment needs to have a flood sensor just like everyone needs to have a fire alarm at home."

The city has installed 200 street level flood sensors so residents can go online to see flood data in certain areas in real time.
