Mayor Eric Adams is trying to find more areas to build housing with New York City in the midst of a severe housing shortage.
Adams signed an executive order that mandates all city agencies review and evaluate city owned land for potential housing development, whether it be under utilized lots, garages or buildings. Adams says if there’s any land within the city’s control that has even the remotest potential to develop affordable housing, his administration will take action. This is one of a number of steps the mayor is taking to address the sever housing shortage that has led to a one-point-four percent rental vacancy rate in the city.
