New York City continues to build new housing but Mayor Eric Adams thinks more can be done to address the city’s housing crisis.
Mayor Eric Adams boasted that his administration produced a record number of a affordable housing units for a one year period. However, the mayor is challenging local officials to do their part to support new affordable units in their neighborhoods after pointing out that a number of communities are resisting new housing.
“Everywhere I go, people tell me housing is a right, housing is a right but as soon as we put a brick down in a neighborhood, they say wait a minute, not here. Build it somewhere else. Everyone is telling us no, no no.
The Adams administration is working on cutting red tape and converting office space into housing. The city’s vacancy rate stands at 1.4 percent.
