Officials are calling it the U.S.'s largest offshore wind port. Ground was broken on Monday at the South Brooklyn Terminal for the building of the port.

73 acre will serve as offshore wind operations. Molly Morris, the President of Equinor Renewables Americas says this will have a ripple effect nationwide.

"Imagine New York City as a hub that helps open up the offshore wind supply chain across the country, from vessels built in Louisiana and Pennsylvania to export cables built in South Carolina."

The site at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal will eventually hold 54 wind turbines that will generate enough clean energy to power half a million New York homes. The project will create thousands of new jobs.
