Fleet Week underway in NYC

Ships Arrive For Fleet Week
Ships Arrive For Fleet Week

Fleet Week is in its 36th year and is underway in New York City. A number of ships arrived on Wednesday. Folks gathered along the Hudson River to see the enormous USS Bataan dock right next to the U.S. Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum. Lieutenant General Brian Cavanaugh With the U.S. Marine Corp says folks can tour this ship as well as two German ships that have arrived.

"They get to see not only the assault ship but they'll get to see the aircraft that are onboard as well as ground equipment and weapons and more importantly the Marines and sailors that represent America all across the country."

Fleet Week has a number of activities for the public to take part in to engage with Marines, and members of the Navy and Coast Guard. They include concerts and dive tank demonstrations. Fleet Week wraps up on Memorial Day. There will be a remembrance ceremony at the Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum.
