Newark Airport access project approved

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is signing off on a Station Access project plan for Newark Airport aimed at helping nearby underserved communities.

The 160 million dollar project includes adding a new entry point to the Newark Airport Rail Station. Officials says it will greatly reduce commute times for residents in Newark's South Ward and North Elizabeth. The project will include an extension of the existing pedestrian bridge over station platforms and tracks to a new public access area off Frelinghuysen Avenue. The public access area will include a pick-up/drop-off point. Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
