Pet insurance rates in New Jersey are skyrocketing and one lawmaker is trying to do something about it.

New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer says there are three major pet insurance companies in the Garden State asking for between a 33 and 56 percent increase in insurance costs. He says that’s after pet insurance has already surged in the last few years.

“There is a line between reasonable and unreasonable and these rate increases in one year crosses that line. We need to make life more affordable for hard working families who just want to care for their loved ones.

Gottheimer wrote a letter to the state’s Department of Banking and Insurance asking them to reject the companies’ proposed pet insurance rate hikes.
