There's a push to try again to lower the speed limit in New York City as the state legislative session winds down.

Street safety advocates have been trying for several years to get state lawmakers to pass Sammy's law. It would grant New York City officials the power to lower the speed limit to 20 miles per hour. The bill is named after a boy hit and killed crossing the street in Brooklyn a decade ago. His mother Amy Cohen says the bill's passage is long overdue.

"Every single mile per hour lower that a driver is driving makes it that much more likely, three times more likely that someone will survive the crash."

There's only days left before state lawmakers go into recess but the bills sponsor, Senator Brad Hoylman expressed optimism to the New York Post that it will pass. Members from Mayor Adams' Administration just made a trip to Albany to push the bill.
