Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul is the projected winner over Republican Lee Zeldin in New York’s governor’s race.

Governor Kathy Hochul declared victory, becoming the first woman to ever be elected governor to the state of New York. Addressing a huge crowd of supporters in Manhattan, Hochul said she felt the weight of all the girls and women in the state.

“Who have had to bang up against glass ceilings everywhere they turn to know that a woman could be elected in her own right and successfully govern a state as rough and tumble as New York.”

Hochul turned to the next four years, vowing to help New Yorkers live in communities without fear of crime, create good paying jobs and affordable housing among other goals.
