A gun trafficking bill that's been pushed for years by a New York senator is part of the recent gun package deal by the U.. Senate
New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand notes about three quarters of the guns used in crimes in New York have been trafficked in from out of state.
“Guns from states with lax gun laws are flooding into states with strong gun laws. As a result law enforcement and prosecutors are having to rely on a patchwork of state regulations that make prosecutions difficult and convictions nearly impossible.”
Her Gun Trafficking and Crime Prevention Act will make trafficking firearms a federal crime and establish harsh penalties for those who get firearms to a person who is not supposed to have them. The bill also makes it easier to go after dealers taking part in trafficking.
