The Biden Administration is taking a big step to grow the offshore wind industry in waters off New Jersey and New York. Next month, the federal government will auction off 480 thousand areas off the coastline to wind energy developers. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland says this cold result in enough wind energy to power two million homes.

“We are at an inflection point for domestic offshore wind energy development. It presents a unique opportunity to build a brand new energy that can combat climate change and create robust and sustainable economies.”

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says he’s working to address concerns about a negative impact to the commercial fishing industry and concerns about the view from Jersey shore residents.
