More Weapons Screenings Following Uptick In Guns In NYC Schools

New York City officials are addressing safety concerns at schools. Mayor de Blasio says there will be more unannounced weapons scanning. There will also be more youth and neighborhood coordination officers being placed at schools at arrival and dismissal times. This comes after several recent wild brawls were captured on video and an uptick in confiscated guns. Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter.

“We need to make sure we have the appropriate staffing and resources as needed. We are watching issues in our schools and making adjustments if necessary.”

The union representing school safety agents says there are not enough agents due to retirement and the coronavirus vaccine mandate.
