NYC Replacing Gifted And Talented Program In Schools
The de Blasio administration is laying out a plan to replace the Gifted and Talented program in New York City elementary schools. The new plan will give accelerated instruction for all elementary school students. Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter notes this is 26 times the number of students who test into the Gifted and Talented program which is being phased out for the Brilliant NYC Plan.
“This framework will keep our students together, not separated out by a G and T label. Classrooms will house different instructional levels and tap into students’ unique interest.”
Critics of the de Blasio administration ending gifted and talented say it was done without parent input. de Blasio promises parent engagement on details of the replacement program over the next couple of months.
