de Blasio Accused Of Misusing NYPD Security Detail
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is being accused of misusing police security detail.
The City’s Department of Investigations Commissioner Margaret Garnett says the mayor spent about 320 thousand dollars for security detail to accompany him on his presidential campaign trips.
“The campaign has not reimbursed the city for these expenses. Based on the COIB public guidance in 2009 and 2012 this is not a permissible use of city resources.”
The DIO report also accuses the mayor of using his NYPD security detail to improperly drive around the mayor’s family and staff. de Blasio blasted the report mainly complaining that DIO investigators didn’t talk to the NYPD.
“How do you forget to interview the guy in charge of security if you are doing a report on security. It just doesn’t add up.”
The mayor says he and his family have faced numerous threats over the years.
