NYPD Beefing Up Security For 9-11 Anniversary
There is stepped up security in Lower Manhattan ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 9-11 terror attacks this Saturday.
The NYPD will be using explosive detection K-9’s, heavy weapons teams, plain clothes officers, and every person will be scanned as they enter the 9-11 remembrance ceremony. NYPD Chief John Miller says the department is treating 9-11 as an elevated threat environment.
“We have stepped it up this year not because of specific information about something in New York but because we want people to see it. We want people to know they are safe and that we are protecting that event.”
Miller says while there is no specific credible threat, there has been significant propaganda released by terror groups recently and he points to the situation in Afghanistan.
