All New York City employees must soon get the coronavirus vaccine or get tested frequently. They must do so by September 13th or they face suspension without pay. Workers in congregate or residential settings have a mid August deadline.

“People who work in offices and people who work on the front line. Everyone. Because September is when the rubber hits the road and this is when we have to make the difference and so this mandate will be in place.”

Mayor de Blasio’s announcement comes as the city’s daily coronavirus case total continues to rise. New York City’s largest municipal public employee union DC 37 responded in a statement reading, “If City hall intends to test our members weekly, they must first meet us at the table to bargain.”

Meanwhile, New York City is forcing municipal employees who are not vaccinated against coronavirus to wear face coverings at the work place indoors starting August 2nd. City employees who want to go maskless must show proof they received the coronavirus vaccination.
