Governor Andrew Cuomo says the COVID emergency in New York state is over starting Thursday.

Cuomo says the CDC guidance for unvaccinated people and mask requirements for certain settings remain. However, he says it’s time to move forward and rebuild New York.

There’s going to be a monument dedicated to front line workers and victims of coronavirus in New York City.

What’s called A Circle of Heroes monument will have 19 red Maple Trees in a circle to recognize the responsibility and contribution of 19 groups of essential workers from doctors to EMTs to store employees. Governor Andrew Cuomo says the circle represents their connections during the pandemic.

“Because it only worked if all the pieced worked. It only works if the ambulance shows up and if the doctor shows up and if the nurse shows up and if the utility worker shows up.”

The middle of the circle will have an eternal flame honoring those lost to coronavirus. The monument will be in Lower Manhattan and built by Labor Day.

New York City residents don't have to leave their home now if they want the coronavirus vaccine. With demand slowing, Mayor de Blasio is trying to make it as easy as possible for folks to get the vaccine, so he’s expanding the in home vaccination program. He says now anyone eligible for the vaccine can sign up at NYC.gov/HomeVaccine and a health professional will come.

“This is really important for folks who are ready, have not yet been vaccinated but for whom it’s been a challenge to get to a vaccination site or haven’t been sure.”

Prior to this, the in home vaccination program was for homebound seniors.
