New York Makes Internet Affordable For Low Income Residents

Darren McGee/Darren McGee- Office of Governor

New York State is making the internet affordable for low income New Yorkers. Governor Cuomo signed an executive order forcing internet companies operating in New York State to provide high speed internet to low income New Yorkers for 15 bucks a month. He announced this in Buffalo where Mayor Byron Brown applauded the move.

“The Pandemic has made it clear that we cannot consider high speed internet a luxury. It is a necessity for modern life.”

In addition, New York is partnering with a foundation to provide free internet access to 50-thousand students in economically disadvantaged school districts through June of next year.
