What are Thank You Gifts?

For minimum donations that go from $60 and up you can receive a gift thanking you for your donation. Click here and see all of the WBGO logo items and great CD and DVD packages you can get as Thank You Gifts.

What does the money go for?

WBGO is a non-profit, non-commercial station. Our five million dollar annual operating budget comes from a combination of grants, underwriting, and fees, but the largest single component of our income is from listeners like you who like what they hear enough to turn around and support us with a tax-deductible contribution. Our budget covers all of the costs of broadcasting WBGO and streaming twenty four hours a day, seven days a week; from light bulbs and pencils, to equipment and maintenance, to staff and even the building that our studios are in.

Is my Contribution Tax Deductible?

Yes. Every contribution made to WBGO is tax deductible. If you take no thank you gift with your donation, the full amount is tax deductible. If you receive a thank you gift, the amount is tax deductible minus the fair market value of the thank you gift. Each Jan. 15 WBGO sends out a notice to all those who have donated the year before that shows how much your tax deductible gift to WBGO was. It will include and therefore deduct the fair market value of the thank you gift(s) you might have gotten.

What are the different benefits levels of Membership?

For a minimum donation of $60 you can receive all of the basic membership benefits. (Basic membership benefits start at $35 for seniors and students.)

What is the Jazz Leadership Society?

Contributors who donate $1000 or more each year are welcomed into the Jazz Leadership Society which has its own special benefits such as JLS events with members of the station and the music community, and more. Click here for a complete list of JLS benefits.

What is a Host an Hour?

This is a thank you gift that contributors can get for a donation of $1250 or above. An individual can "host an hour" on WBGO, by choosing all of the music and being a "guest DJ." Guest DJs can be the sole DJ or work with the regular on-air host. Either way, we will take care of all the technical aspects of the hour. Guest DJs go home with a CD of their hour broadcast on WBGO. (Host an Hour's are thank you gifts that are only available during drives and limited to two that can be pledged for per radio shift.)
